1. HOW TO CREATE AN EXTERNAL LINK (i.e. A LINK TO ANOTHER WEBSITE)

If you follow the steps below, WordPress will automatically add in the code for you and create a link to one of your website pages.

  1. Highlight the text you want to appear as the link (see below example “www.inkdesign.ca”)
  2. While your text is highlighted, click the “add link” icon in the toolbar
  3. The Insert/Edit link box will pop up – enter in the website address you wish to link to in the URL. *follow the below example – it is important that the prefix http:// is used!
  4. Make sure the “Open link in new window/tab” is checked (you don’t want potential customers leaving your site – if the link opens in a new window they will still have assess to your website.
  5. Click the blue “Add Link” button.

2. HOW TO CREATE A LINK TO ONE OF YOUR WEBSITE PAGES

The steps are basically the same if you want to add a link to one of your website pages. The below shows an example of some text that references the contact page. I want to link to the contact page to make it as easy as possible for people to get in touch.

  1. Highlight the text you want to appear as the link (see below example “contact page”)
  2. While your text is highlighted, click the “add link” icon in the toolbar
  3. The Insert/Edit link box will pop up – look for “Or link to existing content“.
  4. You will see your pages listed below. Scroll until you see the page that you want to link to (in this case, it is the Contact Page).
  5. Click this page and then click the blue “Add Link” button.

*note: in this case, you want to make sure the “Open link in new window/tab” is not checked.
